THE ECONOMY AND JOB MARKET
Keeping in mind the data on Dubuque's cost of living, income and wages, explore key data points related to the economy and job market. How does the availability of jobs in Dubuque relate to the information highlighted by previous sections?
THE ECONOMY
Note: The labor force represents the number of employed and unemployed people in Dubuque, meaning those who are currently working and those actively looking for a job. Individuals not employed and not actively looking for work, such as retired individuals or homemakers, are not included in the labor force.
The number of unemployed people in this chart has been inverted, meaning that the line will go down when the number of unemployed people increases. This was done to better show the two metrics in comparison on the graph. For both metrics, the line going up is a positive (increase in labor force or a drop in unemployment), and the line going down is a negative (the labor force shrinking or an increase in the number of people unemployed).
From October 2019 to October 2021, the number of unemployed people grew by 500, but the labor force dropped by 2,500.
